It has been learnt that Province 2 CM Lalbabu Raut, who had recently sought permission from the federal government of Nepal to visit the United States upon invitation by the Madheshi Association in America (MAA) to attend their general convention, has been denied.
The federal government has asked him to give time to his province and not make any foreign trips at this juncture because the province is yet to formulate annual policies and budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Senior politician Baburam Bhattarai, convener of Naya Shakti Party, Nepal has criticized the government’s move and has said the government has made a serious mistake. ‘Hope the federal government will revise its decision’ (translated from Nepali) – he has said.

Province 2 CM Raut had recently been caught up amidst controversies regarding his address in Janakpur during PM Modi’s Nepal visit. He had said the newly promulgated constitution of Nepal was biased towards Madheshis and did not incorporate total and fair inclusion, a feeling he had iterated during his parliamentary address too.
Madheshi people had also objected to Nepal’s new constitution when it was promulgated in September, 2015. They had halted vehicular movements along the Terai belt and caused various riots. The promulgation of the constitution also led our southern neighbour India to enforce an ‘unoffcial’ blockade in our southern borders.
