5yr imprisonment tossed for Ram Bahadur Chaudhary over torturing and witchcraft assertion

Kailali District Court  sentenced five year prison term and Rs 100,000 fine to Ram Bahadur Chaudhary, the main accused involved in torturing Radha Chaudhary, 18, over witchcraft allegation in Ghodaghodi Municipality-5 of Kailali district.

A single bench of judge Parsuram Bhattarai delivered the verdict against the accused, informed Kailali District Court.

Likewise, Ram Bahadur’s aide Kismati Chaudhary has been sentenced to one year in prison and Rs 50,000 fine and another aide Smarika Chaudhary has been sentenced to six months in prison and Rs 25, 000 in fine.

Meanwhile, the district court gave clean chit to other accused in the case including Bed Prasad Chaudhary, Chankala Chaudhary and Sitarani Chaudhary.

Ram Bahadur, alias Bhole Baba, a self-proclaimed shaman; two of his aides, Kismati and Smarika along with Bed Prasad Chaudhary, Chankala Chaudhary and Sitarani Chaudhary had tortured Radha for over six hours accusing her of practicing witchcraft on the day the country was observing the International Women’s Day.

Police at Sukhand Area Police Office had not pressed any charge against the main suspect, Ram Bahadur, and released him by allegedly coercing the victim and her family to settle the case.

Police Sub-inspector Dinesh Bista of the Area Police Office had said that the mayor of Ghodaghodi Municipality, Mamata Prasad Chaudhary and the ward chairman of the municipality, Prem Rokaya, were present at the police station for the case settlement.
