A Shree Airlines Bombardier CRJ200 ER touched down in Rajbiraj today and elated residents of Rajbiraj were there to greet arriving passengers with garlands. The mayor of Rajbiraj was there too. Why? Rajbiraj’s airport which had remained discontinued for 10 years is finally open to public.
Earlier in May, Shree Airlines had made a test landing at the airport. After a successful test landing Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation had announced the airport would resume operations shortly, as last minute work on air traffic control tower and the terminal remained.
Shree Airlines has said it would serve Rajbiraj Airport five times a week and ticket prices would range between NRS 3,500 – 6,200.
Rajbiraj residents are relieved to see their own airport commence operations. Earlier, they had to travel to Janakpur or Biratnagar to catch a flight to the capital.
