Indian Embassy to close Biratnagar Field Office from August 1

The Indian Embassy has announced its intention to close its Biratnagar Field Office from August 1, 2018. Established in 2008 after the Koshi floods to assist in ‘issuing road permits’ to use Indian parts of the highway (as parts of Nepal’s East-West Highway near the river were damaged), the field office had outlived its purpose a long time ago.

Nepal’s government had been requesting India to close down the field office, and PM Oli, in May, after his visit with Modi, had assured Nepalese the field office would be closed down.

The press release also advises Indian nationals to process their paperwork from Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, henceforward.
