What is up with the increased ‘police brutality?’Is it really necessary? Hundreds of Kanchanpur residents have come up to us saying ‘police charged sticks, fired tear gas and rubber bullets unnecessarily’. Four have been severely injured, and none of yours are lying in a hospital bed.
Many protesters are claiming ‘policemen in civilian clothes’ would join the protests and throw stones at the security forces to justify police’s retaliation. While these claims are yet to be verified, this is the dominant narrative – many of our sources have reiterated the same.
If not that, remember the Jumla protests? The viral videos which showed police brutality when Dr. K.C was abducted from Karnali hospital, or the time when police had to fire tear gas at protesters in Baneshwor. One policeman even produced a gun in the middle of the road. These are only the recent incidents – the list goes on.
Have you forgotten you were once the protesters? Weren’t you once at the receiving end?And the other half of your ‘now legitimised’ party have literally waged a decade long civil war, for what? For us to see this day? Policemen brutally treating protesters?
Are you setting the perfect example of a democracy? Or simply have not changed your habits?
