Taking the number of registered rape cases to 6 in less than 2 months, police have held a 57 year old man in custody after one of the two 6 year old raped victim alleged she had been raped.
The incident happened on August 31 in Beldandi Rural Municipality, Kanchanpur District, when the two girls were returning home from school. The incident came into light on Saturday after one of the victims shared her ordeal with her mother. Police arrested the man after receiving a complaint from the girl’s family. The girls were taken to Mahakali Zonal Hospital for medical tests on Saturday, and police are investigating the issue and have said will be able to comment on the allegations after the reports come in.
Kanchanpur district is increasingly gaining notoriety over its rising number of rapes – on July 26 a 13 year old Nirmala Panta was raped and strangled to death, a case which has garnered national attention after repeated failures by the police to arrest the culprit. The district has been on fire since, and yet, the rapes continue.
