Tipper Ban in Valley relaxed to expedite government projects

The Metropolitan Traffic Police Department (MTPD) has announced its decision to relax their ‘heavy vehicle ban from plying within the valley’ to expedite government infrastructure projects. Tippers, trucks, lorries and other heavy vehicles will be allowed to ply within the valley provided they are ferrying goods for ‘government infrastructural projects’.

The ban was imposed on July 17 this year over a rising amount of accidents owing to reckless driving by tippers. They were not allowed to ply within the three districts of the valley – Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur between 5 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Vehicles wishing to ply within the valley will have to apply for a special permit from the District Administration Office, which shall be issued upon the recommendation of the related project authority. The relaxation will be valid up to November 16.
