Appearing before a judge at Manly Local Court on Tuesday morning, Prakash Paudyal admitted to assaulting an eighty two year old dementia patient in an old aged care facility in Sydney.
Mr. Paudyal, a 35 year old man of Nepalese origin was charged by NSW police in September after he was caught on video physically assaulting the patient. The video camera was planted by the victim’s daughter after she became suspicious of the bruise marks on his body. Though cameras are not allowed in rooms of patients, NSW police made an exception- that the allegations outweigh the legality of allowing cameras in rooms. It is seen (in the video), Mr. Paudyal beats him repeatedly, pulls his shoe, forces him on the bed, and at one point beats him with a shoe.
Ayda Celine, daughter of the 82 year old patient was devastated and horrified upon seeing the video, and immediately reported the issue to the police. The incident occurred at Bupa Aged Care Seaforth and Paudyal was immediately relieved from his duties at the old aged care home.
The arrest was made on September 6. He appeared before court today. He will be sentenced in January, 2019.
