Kanchanpur District Court released six police personnel on bail on Thursday arrested for allegedly meting out torture and destroying evidences associated to the rape and subsequent murder of Nirmala Panta – a 13-year-old girl from Bhimdutta municipality-2 of Kanchanpur.
Under a single bench of Judge Rajendra Kumar Acharya, Deputy Superintendent Police Gyan Bahadur Shetty and Inspector Ekendra Khadka were released on the bail amount of Rs 900,000 each while Inspector Jagadish Prasad Bhatta bailed out at Rs 400,000 as per said by Rudra Prasad Bogati, a court official.
Similarly, Sub-inspector duo, Hari Singh Dhami and Ram Singh Dhami and Constable Chanani Saud were freed for a bail of Rs 350,000, Rs 300,000 and Rs 250,000, respectively.
The court has also issued a 35- day notice against the then chief of Kanchanpur district police SP Dilliraj Bista, and suspended DSP Angur GC to present themselves before the court.
Nirmala’s mother Durga Devi Panta on 18 December 2018 had filed an FIR at the police office against eight persons, including suspended SP Dilliraj Bista for allegedly tampering with evidence and torturing Dilip Singh Bista.
