First woman will walk the moon by 2024

Only 12 people have walked on the surface of the moon so far – all of them males and all of them American. One of the two is expected to change, thanks to President Trump’s additional $1.6 billion increment to NASA’s budget. NASA expects to land the first female on the moon by 2024. “So that we can return to Space in a BIG WAY!” Trump tweeted while making the announcement.

“We are going to the Moon — to stay”, NASA tweeted. “We will build sustainable infrastructure to support missions to Mars and beyond. This is what we’re building. This is what we’re training for. We are going”, NASA said. It has been almost five decades since a human soul has landed on the moon – the last expedition being carried out in 1972. NASA hopes that more exploration of the moon will help the US establish a strategic presence in space and grow their international partnerships.

The mission has been named ‘Artemis’, goddess of the moon and twin sister of Apollo as per Greek Mythology.
