Dengue epidemic spreads to Jhapa and Morang

Dengue is found to be spreading into Morang and Jhapa districts after Dharan Dengue epidemic where a large number of patients have been found to be infected with the disease in the last one month.

9 cases of dengue were reported in Morang, said Gyan Bahadur Basnet, chief of the District Health Office.  The victims are from Sundarhalaicha, Urlabari, Belbari, Kerabari and Biratnagar Metropolis. Similarly, three dengue patients have recently been reported in Jhapa district.

There have been 560 cases of dengue patients reported in the three districts up to now. More than 368 people were diagnosed with the disease in Dharan alone.

A “Search and Destroy Campaign” has also been launched in a bid to contain the epidemic in Dharan Metropolitan city. The provincial government has also told the local unit to start ‘search and destroy campaign to prevent the epidemic from spreading.
