Five, including gunman killed in Texas shooting spree, 21 injured

Five people (including gunman) are reported to have been killed and 21 injured in a shooting incident that happened in West Texas cities on a Labour Day weekend (Saturday). A man in his 30s shot police, motorists and passersby.

Beginning with shooting a policeman who stopped the gunman between the cities of Midland and Odessa, he went on shooting motorists and passer-by. The man was finally stopped after being shot by police officials outside a cinema complex, police officials said. He was confirmed to be dead at the scene.

The motive behind the shooting has not been disclosed. According to police, the incident began just after 15:00 local time.

The gunman shot two police officers from Texas Department of Public Safety when they pulled over a vehicle on a Midland highway. The man then drove away from the scene.

He was also believed to have abandoned his vehicle and stolen a postal van at one point. 21 people have been injured in the attack. Not all the injured have sustained bullets but been injured due to bullets shattering the glass. A 17 month child was struck in the face with a bullet fragment, thus airlifted to the hospital, said Odessa’s Medical Center Hospital. Seven were serious.

U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted that he was ‘briefed by Attorney Barr about the shooting in Texas.’

The mass shooting is a second incident within a month in Texas. Four weeks ago, 22 people were shot to death by a gunman in the Texas city of EI Paso.
