President Bhandari off to Janakpur for Bibaha Panchami

President Bidya Devi Bhandari is arriving in Janakpur today to partake in the Bibaha Panchami festivities.

The president is scheduled to leave for Janakpur at 11:00 am today in Nepali Army’s helicopter, informed Chief District Officer of Dhanusa, Pradip Raj Kadel.

The president will offer prayers to Hindu Lord Ram and his wife Sita at the Janaki Temple. Following that, President Bhandari is slated to welcome as well as address the saints and sages who have arrived from Uttar Pradesh state of India with a wedding procession in Barah Biga of Janakpur.

Bibaha Panchami is the celebration of marriage between Hindu Lord Ram and Sita. As per legends, Ram was born in Ayodhya of India whereas Sita was the daughter of King Janak of Janakpur.  Besides Nepali worshippers, every year thousands of Indian pilgrims throng the Janaki Temple to mark the occasion. The festival is being celebrated on December 1 this year.
